=============================================================== =============================================================== Postscript versions of these fonts for use in MacOS systems are available in systems/mac/fonts/oztex =============================================================== =============================================================== ================ Before you start ================ You will find in these Stuffit 5 archives fonts in MacOS format and the files needed to use them in a TeX system, namely OzTeX. The procedure to install these fonts in other MacOS TeX systems, such as Textures or Direct TeX is necessarily different, therefore you should consult the manual of your implementation before asking the maintainer, as he only had access to OzTeX on the Macintosh and presently to teTeX on fancy schmancy unix boxes and MikTeX in a Windows box. Contents ======== The package contains at least the following items: * MacOS bitmap suitcase with a carefully hand-built metrics resource. If the fonts are relevant only to TeX/LaTeX use, the font names have been edited with a resource editor to include a percent sign prefix. This guarantees their "invisibility" to normal applications in your system but not to your TeX application if properly configured. Notice that this strategy may not work with OSX. My experice with this version of the OS is definitely *not* with Apple's versions therefore you are on your own. (And I don't remember the last time I used OpenStep either). Yet, you still need these versions if you want to use the fonts in Classic or Carbon applications (probably with some new Cocoa appplications as well, but you are on your own here). * PostScript Type 1 outline files, also known as printer files. These files are verbatim translations of the original fonts from PostScript Font Binary (.pfb) format to LaserWriter Font resource format (LWFN/POST), the native MacOS format for postscript fonts. Verbatim here means that the data contained in the outline data is exactly the same contained in the original fonts. Most of the original fonts were created by Taco Hoekwater unless explicitly noted. This means that is the original fonts have artifacts, these format translations have them too. I may have corrected versions available but those are for my own use only (unless I can be conviced otherwise by a reasonable number of people.) * OzTeX configuration file. This is a file containing configuration directives for OzTeX's dvi previewer and non-postscript printing. It should be added to your local configuration file. * DVIPS configuration files, if applicable. * METAFONT and metrics (.tfm) files if applicable. * LaTeX support files if applicable. * LY1 support files if applicable. In the particular case of commercial foundry fonts licensed as freeware, the metrics support (.tfm and .vf files) are included in the PSNFSS 8.1 and later distributions. Licenses ======== These fonts are not necessarily in the public domain! Please make sure to read the license agreement included with the fonts if applicable. THESE PACKAGES ARE OFFERED AS A FREE CONTRIBUTION TO THE TeX USERS COMMUNITY AND IMPLY NO WARRANTY NOR GUARANTEE OF ANY KIND. BY USE OF THE CONTENTS IN THIS PACKAGE, YOU RENOUNCE ANY RIGHT OF COMPENSATION AND LIABILITY. OPENING THE PACKAGE OR READING THIS DOCUMENT IN PART OR IN ITS ENTIRETY IMPLIES YOUR IRREVOCABLE ACCEPTANCE OF THE TERMS SET FORTH IN THIS LICENSE. THE COPYRIGHT OF THIRD PARTY SOFTWARE INCLUDED IN THESE PACKAGES IS THE PROPRIETY OF THIER RESPECTIVE OWNERS AND USED IN ACCORDANCE TO THE LICENSES SET FORTH BY THE RESPECTIVE AUTHORS. Support? ======== Support is limited to correcting problems that may interfere with the correct operation of the fonts in a MacOS system. Having made clear my position in the matter, you can post your questions on the use and installation of these fonts, or ---God forbid!--- bugs, to the OzTeX Users mailing list, where I'll try to help you with your troubles.
